This smartphone stand has a
deceptively simple shape.
However,
the back is not perfectly perpendicular.
It's angled ever so slightly.
It's a subtle difference that you might not notice,
but there's a reason for it.
When you hang your smartphone on a towel rack,
the weight is borne by the front, which is the pole side.
If the back were straight,
the weight would shift more easily to the back,
causing it to "slip" off the wall more easily.
Therefore,
by tilting the back slightly,
more of the weight is directed towards the pole side.
It's not leaning against the wall,
but rather supported from the front.
Imagine standing with your weight on your toes,
lightly touching the wall behind you with your hands.
It's not a huge difference,
but it affects the stability.
After several prototypes,
we settled on the current angle.
As a result,
when you place your smartphone on it,
the force that would cause the stand to tip backward
is instead directed forward.
The intended structural design
is clearly reflected in the stability when in use.
That's where the repeated prototyping paid off.
