For those who want to use Touch ID while placing an external keyboard on their MacBook ― Keyboard Cover for MacBook Pro 16-inch ―

I want to use my preferred keyboard.
But if I place it on top of my MacBook Pro,
I can't press the Touch ID.
 
Because of this, I've been arranging keyboards vertically on my desk,
or moving the keyboard each time I need to authenticate.
 
This product was created for those who thought,
"I want to use an external keyboard in a 'sonshi-style' setup, but I also want to use Touch ID."
 
What this cover can do:

■ About the Product

 
This product is a cover designed to allow you to place an external keyboard on top of your MacBook Pro 16-inch keyboard without obstructing the Touch ID.
 
Its main feature is a design that allows you to reach the Touch ID even when the keyboard is in place.
Many similar products on the market block the Touch ID,
but this product was designed from the outset to solve that problem.
 
Additionally, to avoid interfering with charging or peripheral connections,
there are cutouts in the port areas,
allowing you to use USB-C and MagSafe with the cover on.
 
The left side has hooks,
providing a structure that prevents the cover from shifting even when a keyboard is placed on it.

Supports external keyboards approximately 300mm wide x 130mm deep.
 
Keyboards confirmed to work:
・HHKB Professional Classic / Hybrid (294mm wide x 120mm deep)
・HHKB Studio
・RealForce RC1 (300mm wide x 130mm deep)
・Logicool MX Keys Mini (312mm wide x 131mm deep) *The width extends by about 12mm, but it does not cause any issues in use.
 
Other keyboards can generally be used if their size is within the guideline.

■ About Material and Texture

 
This product uses MATTE PLA (matte white).
 
It has a matte, non-glossy texture that blends well with the MacBook Pro's casing.
It weighs approximately 83g.
 
 

■ About Silicone Feet

 
There are four silicone feet on the surface that contacts the MacBook Pro's keyboard.
 
This serves to:
・Prevent direct contact with the main keyboard, ensuring ventilation
・Act as an anti-slip for the bridge itself
・Reduce scratches on the main body surface

but applying strong force may cause damage.
Please handle with care.
 
This product uses MATTE PLA material.
While ventilation holes and silicone feet prevent direct contact with the body,
we do not have durability data for long-term use in environments where the MacBook overheats significantly. Please be aware of this beforehand.
 
 

■ Product Development Background

 
I wanted to use my HHKB while also working on my MacBook Pro.
 
Initially, I used to arrange the keyboards vertically.
However, that took up a lot of desk depth.
 
Even though I knew stacking them would solve the problem,
stacking them meant I couldn't press the Touch ID.
 
When I searched for covers to place an external keyboard on,
I only found ones that blocked the Touch ID.
I also confirmed from several blog posts that there were other users who were dissatisfied.
 
So, I decided to create a cover that allows Touch ID to be used.
 
It may not look perfectly streamlined.
Having a keyboard on top of the MacBook
might appear awkward to some.
 
However, you can use your favorite keyboard, and you can still press the Touch ID.
It also saves desk space.
 
I personally find that practical benefit to be very significant.
I hope it reaches others who feel the same way.
