"Will it fit my pump?"
When considering a pump stopper,
that's probably the first thing that comes to mind.
Even if the product page says "compatible with various pumps",
the uncertainty remains whether it will actually work with your pump
until you try it.
This article will clarify
how to choose the right size
and how to check for compatibility.
But first, I want to state this:
While it is compatible with most common pumps,
we do not guarantee compatibility with all pumps.
Please measure your pump before making a decision.
Types of pumps this stopper supports
First, a premise.
This stopper is designed to be compatible with both
thick and thin pumps.
Regarding the diameter (thickness) of the pump,
it can cover almost all common shampoo, body soap, sunscreen, and hair product pumps.
However, regarding "height" rather than thickness,
there are differences among pumps.
That is why this stopper is available in four sizes.
How to choose a size
This stopper comes in four different heights.
Pink: approx. 10mm
Beige: approx. 13mm
Blue: approx. 15mm
Yellow: approx. 17mm
The selection criterion is
"how many millimeters from the base of the pump to the position where it is not depressed."
This can be a little confusing, so I will explain it step by step.
Checking procedure
① Press the pump completely down
② Let the pump return (rise) completely
③ Measure the difference between ① and ②, which is the "range of pump movement"
If you choose a stopper slightly smaller than this range,
when fitted at the base, it will catch before the pump is depressed.
For example, if the pump's range of motion is 14mm,
13mm (beige) or 15mm (blue) would be candidates.
With 13mm, the stopper will hit when the pump has moved 1mm.
With 15mm, the pump will stop with 1mm remaining.
There's no single correct answer, but
if you want to "securely stop" it, a smaller size is better,
and if you prioritize "ease of attachment/detachment," a larger size is more suitable.
If there's no "just right" size
It's possible that after measuring, it doesn't quite align with any of the four sizes.
In that case,
it's generally safer to choose a slightly smaller size.
A smaller size
will stop the pump after a slight movement,
creating a state where it's "not completely fixed, but won't be pushed down significantly."
Forcing a larger size
can put undue stress on the stopper.
Reason for the 8-piece set configuration
This stopper comes in a set of 8, with 2 pieces of each of the 4 colors.
Having two of the same size is so that
they can be used on multiple bottles in the house simultaneously.
If your shampoo and conditioner pumps are the same size,
you can use two stoppers of the same color on each bottle.
Also, by color-coding for different uses,
you can prevent confusion about "which stopper belongs to which bottle."
Who it's suitable for, and who it's not
